    To whom it may concern:

Several months ago, I was approached by Andre Sheldon seeking
feedback and support for his project Council of Women. As one of
the original co-founders of Gather the Women, a global community
inviting women to step forward in compassionate and collaborative
leadership, I was intrigued by his vision of a ‘Council of Women’, a
core circle of women leaders representing diverse global women’s
organizations who would come together to explore and model
feminine collaboration and who would eventual launch together a
compelling campaign to mobilize the world’s women in the cause of
    non-violence and peace.

There is a complex history of attempts to create this kind of unifying force among the
women of the world, going as far back as the 19th century when British philosopher
Matthew Arnold said, “If ever the world sees a time when women shall come together
purely and simply for the benefit of mankind, it will be a power such as the world has
never known.” Matthew Arnold died in 1888 without experiencing the power of women
‘coming together’ around the globe, and even in the technologically-connected world of
2007, I personally know many women who fear they will not live to see this powerful force
for good in their lifetime. There are many challenges to creating a unity of purpose among
the many hundreds of diverse women leaders and women’s organizations … and yet the
reasons to try become more compelling every day. The time is now, the women are ready
and the world desperately needs their feminine leadership in order to achieve a healing
    balance.

I do believe that the Council of Women is a simple and brilliant
‘next step’ on the journey to a balanced world. Since leaving my
official position in the leadership of Gather the Women in June
2007, I have been working as an individual with Andre to refine
and launch this project, and have committed to serve as an active
member of the Council of Women as it begins to take shape over
the next year.  While Andre is committed to preparing the
foundation for the Council by providing funding, staffing  and other
aspects of infrastructure, he understands that what will make the
Council successful will be a compelling message emerging from the
shared heartbeat of a circle of women and broadcast out in waves
to the willing women of this planet.

    questions or require further information.

    Sincerely,
